Check your smoke detectors!
I don't just mean the batteries people. You should check which kind of smoke detector you actually have - dual sensor, ionizing, or photoelectronic. If you want the full details, read this article. If you just want highlights . . .
Three out of four times, smoke detectors with photoelectric sensors sounded long before the ionization smoke detectors, providing as much as 26 minutes of extra escape time during the smoky fires.
