New York City!

As you’ve noticed, I’m behind on some of my regular blogging duties.  I haven’t done last week’s book group blog post and I don’t think I’ll get to this week’s or next week’s book group blog post.  (I do have my Trek Tuesday post ready and loaded though.)  I’m going to go ahead and blame it on me being super busy preparing to go to New York with my sister next week.  So, don’t expect much action here next week at all. 

However, if you just can’t get enough of me and want to read about our trip, you can always check out Sauntering Sunflower,* where I’ll be attempting to blog about it as it happens.  It’s the blog my husband and I started for our trip to Japan.

Also, if you want a New York postcard sent to you, send me an email with your mailing address and I’ll do my best to send away a postcard to you while we’re there.

NaNoWriMo

That stands for National Novel Writing Month. This was one of my 5 main goals for this year and it will probably be the last one that I complete since I never got around to booking a road test. (I know, you don't need to tell me that I should really do away with the 'N' status). NaNoWriMo takes place every November. Basically, if you sign up, you try to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Crazy, right!?! Well, I'm a little crazy anyway, so I thought I'd give it a whirl this year. I've got a story idea that I'm going to try to jump into and I'm all excited about meeting some of the other participants and being involved in it all. I was a bit disheartened that I didn't have a totem that so many others on the NaNoWriMo forums seemed to have, but then one found me - Oscar the Grouch, complete with a little sign that says 'scram' that's so perfect for when I need to be left alone to frantically try to find a lot of short descriptive words. (BTW, thanks again Kim!)

But, this also means that I will likely be posting even less than I currently am. I guess you could say that I'm on hiatus for at least a month. And, realistically, considering Christmas is just around the corner and I'm hosting dinner for about 20 people (maybe I'll need to reconsider which adverb I use to modify how 'crazy' I am) I'm not sure I'll be back until 2008. However, if you subscribe to my blog through feedburner, I am going to continue publishing my del.icio.us links whenever things strike my fancy. I may even sign in to facebook once in a while and update my status with my current word count or even some totally random dribble if my brain snaps under all the pressure.

Well, close to here anyway. It's in Vancouver, which doesn't really help me. It's basically a car sharing network. So, you pay an annual/monthly fee depending on how often you'll probably use it, and then get to share these cars instead of owning your own. I'd so do that in a second if I lived in Vancouver. Hopefully, this is the trend of the future! Oh yeah, I'm also not quite eligible yet, as I need to get rid of my big green "N" from the back of the car first. But, hopefully that'll be happening this year!

Check this guy out! I can't even imagine how difficult this would be. Definitely have to respect a guy who can manage this.

Hillary, I'm Impressed!

I'm sure many of you have already heard that Hillary Clinton has officially announced her intention to run for president. She would be the first female president of the United States. I think she may even be the first woman to run for president.

I personally think she'd be a great choice for president. She's already been to the White House for starters. And then there's her experience as a senator. And frankly, I think it'd be very hard NOT to improve upon George W.'s performance as President.

What's really impressed me though is her website. Even if you take a brief look at it, I think you can see she's making good use of the technology that's out there. There are clear sections, the home page isn't overly cluttered, and she's taking advantage of webcasts and blogging.

The next presidential campaign will definitely be full of firsts as I've heard that one of the other major contenders for president is an African-American. It seems as though we're really getting closer to the time when children won't think it peculiar or odd to have national leaders that represent the diversity present in North America.
