6 Random Things

Are you happy sis? I'm finally updating my blog. And, it's a fairly banal post about 6 random things. I'm going to break the rules though, and I'm not tagging anyone. If you see this and think it's fun, then go ahead and pick up the torch and do your own random things post. If you need more inspiration you can check out Dianne's post or my sister Kim's post.

1. I am fascinated by the weather. When we had free trial cable, I watched the weather channel more consistently than anything else (except perhaps live sports - it WAS the play-offs people). I'd like to have a good camera and take good weather pictures, but we mostly only get deep clouds here and I don't have any good open sky views deep in the labyrinthine heart of suburbia that I call home.

2. I enjoy consistency with my meals. I like to eat the same breakfast pretty much every day. I went for almost a decade dining each morning on Cheerios (in actual fact, I had a fairly high number of lunches, dinners, and snacks that were Cheerios too). I can eat almost the exact same lunch every day and I'm ok with that too. Dinner needs a bit more variety, but not too much. I think it's just because I'm so lazy about thinking up different meals and things to eat.

3. I am a very contrary (read: frustrating) person. I am a terribly story-teller who wants to be a writer. I am a feminist who gets serious anxiety that I'm not a good enough wife because I don't cook and clean enough for my husband. And, even though I don't get particularly excited about food and cooking, I still can't stop myself from overeating or eating unhealthy foods.

4. I suffer from what one of my online friends calls 'doormatism.' Someone asks something and my reflex is to accommodate them. Even what it isn't really convenient for me or when I'd prefer to arrange it differently, I am stuck being boring, dependable Jenn.

5. I am a terrible family member. I never stop by and I rarely call or write. I don't like holiday or event cards, but I also don't even phone on their birthdays.

6. I attract insanely bad drivers. Unfortunately the really freaky weird situations always happen when I'm alone and have no one to corroborate my story. This does nothing to lessen my driver anxiety.

Seven Random Things . . .

Here's the deal . . . normally I don't really participate in things like this. It just isn't my thing. But, I was so nicely tagged by Domestika over at so you wannabee a Domestik Goddess?, I figured it would be rude not to respond at all. However, I'm I'm going to break the rules a bit and not pass it on to seven other bloggers. But, I know there are a few people out there in my little blogging circle who might read this and think it's cool, so feel free to steal it from me and pass it along.

The Rules: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write their own blog post with their 7 things as well as these rules. You need to tag 7 others and list their names on your blog. Remember to leave a comment for them letting them know they have been tagged and to read your blog.

1. I love being an all natural Blonde! Living through 2 decades of blonde jokes has not managed to quelch my pride in my hair colour. I briefly strayed from my roots in high school, but as I mature more I find that I enjoy my hair colour more and more. I have the odd flicker when I'd like to be a brunette so I could be taken more seriously, or when I'd like to be a redhead so I could be a bit more fiery, but most of the time, me as a Blonde is just fine. (And please note there are NO capitalization mistakes in that paragraph!)

2. I've only ever been bitten by a dog twice in my life. Once was on the knee by my own dog and once was on the nose by my cousin's dog.

3. Until I was much further along in my teenage years than I would like to admit, I thought that VanCity was a store that sold waterbeds. Just waterbeds, not any other kind of bed. I have no clue how I started thinking this!

4. I don't believe that chewing gum is a viable option for me so I avoid it whenever possible.

5. I am a computer abuser. *hangs head in shame* There are no programs to rehabilitate computer abusers so I'm designing one myself.

6. I have major problems accurately describing things like colour. So, I tend to use compound words . . . for example: "it's a greeny-browny-yellowy colour."

7. I like to live life dangerously so I never use those paper toilet-seat covers that are in some public washrooms.

So, there you have it. Seven random things about me.

Lip Products

Remember my 5-Things post?

I cleaned out my purse and discovered that I had 9 different lip products in there! Nine! That were just in my purse! I have one lip gloss at work, 2 lip balms in the bedroom, and I don't know how many more in my general make-up stash. And just yesterday I was looking at some lipsticks thinking . . . "well maybe I should pick one up." It's nearly un-natural! Does anyone else have any weird collections of stuff they continue to buy and not use?

5 Things

Normally I don't really go for this kind of meme (which, incidentally rhymes with 'theme') but I'm in a bit of a weird mood today. I have a tiny bit of free time at work so I thought I'd throw it out there. I haven't been tagged or anything, but it's been going around the blogosphere, so I figured I'd crash the meme party.

5 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me

[1] I really like that Shakira song Hips Don't Lie. I REALLY like it. Every time I hear it, the little dancing girl in me jumps up and down and starts shaking her hips. Sometimes it's all I can do to keep myself from chair dancing when the song starts playing at work. If I listened to the radio at home, I'd probably go crank up the volume every time I heard the song. Maybe I'll see what happens if I create a Pandora station around that song.

[2] When I'm happy, I like to skip. Not the kind of skipping with a jump rope (although I do enjoy that too), but the Dorothy-Wizard-of-Oz kind of skipping. If I'm in a good mood I'll skip a few steps down the hallway between the office and bedroom, or I'll skip from the living room to the kitchen. It's fun, I like it, yeah.

[3] I have an odd attraction to lipsticks. It's odd because I don't wear them when I buy them, but in a beauty magazine I'll see them and my eyes go wide as I ooh and aah over the colours. But, in the end, tinted lipgloss is about all I can handle on my lips.

[4] I think I'd make a pretty good Harlequin romance author. Even though I've never managed to read an entire Harlequin romance novel (and yes, I have tried) I'm positive some of the stuff I think up would be prime Harlequin romance material.

[5] I have a slight fear of the hair dresser. It's quite complicated actually. There have been very few hair cuts that I've truly been happy with. Plus, I'm lazy and keeping my hair trimmed and in good condition would be expensive and time consuming. I just don't have the motivation to try to find a good stylist. It's gotten to the point that the thought of meeting a complete stranger and entrusting my hair to them is a bit frightening. So, I just let it grow, damaged ends and all. But, I'm ok with that. I love my long hair and I just wish I could wear it down more often. Unfortunately, because of how fine my hair is and the demands of work and weather, I wear it up most days. It's now so long that I have to blow-dry it so that it isn't wet and freezing cold when I leave the house in the mornings.
